Google has been geolocating results for many years by analyzing the Google domain extension used. If you use google.fr then you get the features of the French search, .co.uk for England, etc. Now, this time is over and it is the real geolocation found by the engine that will choose the right engine automatically . Google announced this in an official press release on October 27, 2017 .
Google claims that 20% of the queries made on the engine off page seo service are localized, so it must better customize the engine according to the location of the users, which is why it has made this choice to prioritize the geolocation of users rather than the extension (TLD) of Google to offer the right services at the right time . Mobile, desktop and even Google Maps search engines are affected by this change.
Until now, the domain name had to be adapted to each country in order to benefit from the features of that country. For example, if you were in Australia, you had to go to google.com.au to have all the services. Now, you can stay on google.fr but Google will geolocate you in Australia and will therefore offer the features relating to the country. This can be seen at the bottom left of the search engine, as in the following capture taken this morning on my computer (we can clearly see "France" at the bottom left).
Google geolocation by real country and no longer by domain name extension
If you want to manually change the country geolocation , Google has provided a menu for this purpose (see the animated Gif below). Just go to the search engine preferences and choose the location that suits you. So everything is possible, it's just a faster adaptation according to the geolocation...
