It's funny how a glass of water could have so much effect on the world. It's funny how one glass of water ended the lives of hundreds of wizards. It's funny how life could be so much better if it hadn't been for one glass of water.
The sound of horse hooves echoed in the distance and Merope was outside in the road the next second, a glass of water held tightly in her trembling hand. As the horse came nearer, the rider could be seen, a beautiful man with a head full of dark hair and looks that could bring anyone to their knees. Hence why Merope was so infatuated with him and why she was standing in the middle of this road on such a stifling day. The horse stopped and the man bent down to receive the glass of water from the woman standing there with a look of pure terror on her face. Next moment, the woman was gone, running down the path of cowardice, the water in a pile on the warm dirt.
Later on, she died, alone and without a child. Most would think of this as terrible sad, but little did they know that by not giving the man that water, Merope had just stopped the most dark wizard of all time from being born. And so life for everyone else continued, happy and without the darkening shadow of Lord Voldemort.
Those that would have died at the hands of Voldemort, didn't. They went on to marry those they loved and have children who then grew up and attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Those wizards that would have become the Deatheaters obviously couldn't without a dark leader and so remained average working civilians. The few braver ones still voiced their views about muggle borns out loud but were soon silenced by the rest of the population.

So life went on, and people stayed blissfully unaware of the anger that was brewing. For little did they know, that no Voldemort means no murder for Tom Riddle and no prison sentence for Merope's brother Morphin. But no one feels he is a problem, especially as they have absolutely no idea where he is. Isn't it terrible how a long time period of peace turns people into absolute idiots? Because all the while they are sitting around, drinking tea and twiddling their thumbs, they have overlooked the fact that Morphins son, who grew up in an orphanage, is now out of Hogwarts and is looking to start an uprising with the help of his peers.
Many graduated peacefully and began their lives, whilst the world around them span into a state of war. A war, the Ministry of Magic are tried to deny, claiming magical accidents and unfortunate events, every time a dead body poped up. Causalities from this period include the McKinnon family, Louise Finnigan, Dorcas Prewett, and Gregory Goyle. However, these 'accidents' became harder and harder to ignore the first Order of the Pheonix was assembled to help fight the good fight when the rest of the world stood blind to the war being waged.
With William Gaunt at the helm the Death Eaters became more organised and visible than ever. After an attack at the Ministry's Halloween Ball there was no way that the battle of good vs evil could be hidden any longer. Many were wounded, some fatally, but sadly this would not be the end of the struggle. Battle lines were drawn and despite their best efforts the Order could not win; the power of the Death Eaters was too strong. Witches and wizards, fought world wide, losing prominent members on both sides including Molly Weasley, Peter Pettigrew and Rabastian Lestrange.

However the most recent attack has caused much grief for many Order members and cemented power in the minds of the Death Eaters. After a short engagement two prominent members within the Order, Archie Pettigrew and Melody Lupin, joined together with family and friends to share their love and commit into marriage. Sadly, before the vows were even spoken the Death Eaters appeared and the damage was beyond the anything the guests could have imagined. During the epic battle there were many casualties and losses but it wasn’t until the Death Eaters retreated that the true damage could be counted. Included in this was the death of Ianto Lupin, one of the most notorious Order members, and the disappearance of the groom, Archie.
Three months on the battle still rages but with the Death Eaters in more positions of power than ever Order members and muggleborns alike are in hiding from the persecution they face on a daily basis. Yet, with the triumphant return of Archie, thanks to those still willing to fight for their cause, the Order and their supporters are beginning to hope again for a better tomorrow and build a force to fight on the side of good.

Isn't it funny how much power resides in a single glass of slightly-spiked water?
